We oppose Carlisle Council's proposal to inflict a £30 bill for garden waste collection.

My name is Robert Betton.
I am raising this protest petition against Carlisle Councils proposal to charge an extra £30 on Council Tax on 42,000 house holds who use the Councils garden waste service.
The Council Tax payers already pay an increasing tax bill and for some on low income this is an extra burden.
Also, for those without private transport, losing the service because of its cost, is going to make real difficulties and possibly lead to the fly tipping of garden waste.
This is a Discretionary Service which unlike most of their discretionary services, fufils the needs of 42,000 households.
For the last 5 years, the Council have been running a campaign to clean up Carlisle.
This is because the Council recognised that improving the places where people live and work gives a feeling of well being and satisfaction within the community.
Of the 42,000 households who use the green waste collection, many will struggle to pay an extra £30 Council Tax.
It is possible, as a result of people withdrawing from the service, because of the extra tax that they can't afford, that some districts will start to lose their present attractiveness and the Council will fail in their part in their own scheme of "Clean up Carlisle".
As someone who has recently acquired a garden which needs considerable work, this service will be most important to me and others in the same position to help to keep the area where they live as an attractive area.
