Rescind OPIRG-Carleton's Eviction Notice
This petition had 574 supporters
The Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) served the Ontario Public Interest Research Group Carleton (OPIRG) with an eviction notice, calling OPIRG to vacate before July 31st.
For over 35 years, OPIRG-Carleton has engaged students in social and environmental justice advocacy, research and change to the benefit of Carleton and the community at large. For 27 of these years OPIRG has worked out of its current location in room 326 of the University Centre and built a community hub around the space.
In the past, OPIRG has been able to negotiate space arrangements given adequate time and discussion. However, in this instance, we have not been privy to the conversations affecting us and our members.
CUSA, we need more time to have a meaningful discussion. We ask that you rescind the eviction notice and extend OPIRG’s current lease at 326 Unicentre in order to enter meaningful negotiations to allow both parties to reach a mutually beneficially outcome regarding the reallocation of space in the Unicentre.
