The educational system has contributed to systemic racism for years and this must change given the diversity of its students and quite simply the basic human rights of each student. Hire more BIPOC in positions of power revamp your Eurocentric teachings. Be inclusive.

I stand by my BIPOC brothers and sisters and can wholly relate to the struggles working against a system designed against us.

I sign because I have to ask the question--how can journalists recognize and empower the marginalized when their own stories and struggles have gone unnoticed?

I’m signing because we need our reporters and newsrooms to work from an anti-racist standpoint, if truly objective reporting is the goal. This starts with education and uplifting the next generation of students.

Canadian journalism schools are responsible for establishment journalism practiced in Canadian newsrooms where reporting and analysis is filtered through a colonialist/capitalist lens. Clearly this has to stop. Canadians need to hear voices not aligned with the colonial/capitalist project.
