PETITION to the City of Williams Lake Cemetery
The citizens of the City of Williams Lake and surrounding communities respectfully request that you allocate an area in our municipal cemetery for Green Burials. This section would meet the needs of a variety of religious faiths and an ever-growing number of environmentally conscious consumers who want a disposition option that is sustainable and environmentally sound.
There is a growing awareness of the negative environmental ramifications of embalming, fiberglass grave liners, and emissions from cremation.
We understand your cemetery has by-laws that can be amended to reflect our communities’ diversity. This will serve to minimize the impact on the environment, allowing the public to make positive choices that will impact our beautiful area for generations to come.
We are confident you’ll come to recognize the positive social and economic implications of setting aside an area of our Municipal Cemetery for Green Burials.
Many of us in Williams Lake and surrounding communities would like to pre-plan our funerals and wish to have a local Green Burial option made available to us as soon as possible.
