Why this petition matters

Started by Sam Lewis

CXC released an examination timetable recently and to the surprise of many, exams were 3 months away with oral exams starting in April! Many students around the Caribbean now are flustered knowing that they now have such a short time to prepare for exams. Many teachers are flustered because they now have 3 months to finish their syllabi. The sudden revert back to the normal CXC timetable should have been done better, this puts pressure on the stakeholders of CXC. A stakeholder in an organization are groups without whose support the organization would cease to exist. As the customers of CXC according to their MOB syllabus, we deserve: To get value for our money, fair and truthful advertisements, and products that are safe and are of the highest standards, to perform to the best of their ability. As of recently, it has been difficult to see how these objectives to us as students and teachers have been achieved. The decisions of CXC sometimes look the exact opposite as they put so much pressure on us.

How has the new and recent change to the old timetable affected you? Will you be ready in time to do the best of your ability? Will you get the grades you deserve? How will your mental health be affected? Your social life? How much will the teachers and students have to sacrifice? The pandemic has affected everyone in such a  way that a sudden change to the normal timetable has a negative effect on the students doing CXC. Was that not taken into consideration? Covid-19 is still here, and the situation of many countries prevents teachers from properly completing their syllabi. So how can it suddenly be completed in 3 months? These are a few issues among others, you know the issues within your country, and the current state you are in.

It is time we speak up and let the authorities hear our voices because we have one and it deserves to be heard. We need to get this to CXC so they can hear, feel and listen to our voices and concerns. That is the first step in being respected as students.
