Approve pelican crossing for Pontprennau Primary School

The Pontprennau Primary school zebra crossing patrol was removed by Cardiff Council in Spring 2017 and not replaced.

Since this time, many local residents, parents and children have experienced "near misses" on the zebra crossing while dropping children at the school or picking them up. Drivers often either ignore pedestrians on or approaching the crossing or simply don't see them. This is despite speed calming restrictions already in place in the area.

We call upon Cardiff Council to urgently review safety provision at this crossing, with the preferred outcome being to replace the zebra crossing with a pelican crossing which requires drivers to stop and is more noticeable to them.

Without this measure in place, local parents fear there will shortly be an accident at the crossing endangering the safety of children and adults alike.

Pontprennau Primary School has no parking or drop off provision for families to use. The school has therefore to adopt the policy of requesting all families to walk their children to school. This is currently not a safe option for those parents who need to cross Heol Pontprennau.
