SFC pitched an idea to Cardiff council to curate, produce and operate a regular lunchtime street food market on Cardiff central square. Cardiff central square is the newly formed open space outside Cardiff central train station and the BBC HQ.

We showed the council the model of how these markets work in other cities like Bristol, Manchester, London and Birmingham. How these are an asset to a cities culture, drive footfall usually developed in tandem with the councils objectives. We offered to pay the going rate for the daily hire.

Unfortunately after 6months of trying we have been refused and told that due to other business in the area paying high rent and rates that a SF market would not be suitable use of the space. We asked if there was another location in the city centre locality, we were told that there is no space for this kind of activity anywhere in the Cardiff city centre.

We want Cardiff council to reconsider their position. Our ambition to produce a regular lunchtime Street Food market for the people of Cardiff that goes beyond financial. We want to produce a platform and stepping stone for independent food traders to flourish
