Beltzville State Park in Carbon County PA is a beautiful state park with boat ramps and a beach . It is a state owned park that is maintained by tax payers dollars . I am sure this could have been better written by a resident that has lived here longer then I , but in the 6 years I have lived here I have watched this lake be abused by the bus loads of visitors that start Memorial Day Weekend and continue through the summer . I believe tourism helps boost Carbon county's revenue and small business' , however the destruction to this beautiful lake and park is not worth it. Just to name or address a few of the issues with the tourists that use the park and amenities for free : diapers buried in the sand on the beach , adults defecating and urinating outside of the provided bathrooms , beer bottles and trash strewn all over the park , illegal parking up and down Pohopoco Drive , cigarette butts pepper the park and soccer fields that we the tax payers here use for our children , the lake is closed for ecoli bacteria several times every summer due to the filth these visitors bring and leave behind and that's just a handful of the issues . We , the people that live here full time, are told it's a State Park and nothing can be done yet in other states fees are paid for each car or bus that shows up with visitors to assist in clean up fees , parking etc. Please share and sign ! Hopefully our elected officials can help us work toward a solution sooner than later !
Our suggestions : Charge admission , enforce littering laws , maybe close the gate when parking lot is full as they do on both boat ramps , citations for loud music , unruly behavior , illegal parking . I'll be happy if the visitors leave with the trash they bring with them and gates close when lot is full . The current staff cannot handle the behavior of these people ,state police are often called in . It's out of control .
