Why this petition matters

Across the uk, there are around 300,000 type 1 diabetic adolescents, myself one of them.

We have to inject ourselves with insulin based on the carbs we eat. A lot of primary schools provide carb amounts for children while secondary schools provide none. This is a big problem, and here is why:

A lot of children are not able to bring in pack lunches or feel like they don’t fit in if all their friends have school lunches, so they have school lunches. They have to guess the carbs, often ending up with inaccurate insulin amounts causing dangerous high or low blood sugars. It’s horrible for us type 1 diabetics having to deal with this.

I feel that it should be a legal requirement for primary and secondary schools to provide the carbohydrate amounts for all food served.

Having diabetes is a pain to live with but this is a start to making it easier.
