An opportunity and an alternative on the horizon.
Nov 24, 2015 — We recently email Mike Black, owner of Capital Iron, again requesting he respond to us and all of those who want his business to not carry Canada Goose.
We demonstrated again last week and will do so again this week and beyond. If you live in Victoria thank you for your support and please come join us. If you live outside of Victoria thank you for your continued support from afar.
Here is our letter:
As you probably know we are about to enter our third week of demonstrations against Capital Iron continuing to sell inhumane Canada Goose apparel. We have had a great response from the community, who for the most part are disgusted to find out your store carries real coyote fur trim coats.
Our petition continues to grow with nearly 30,000 people signatory to it, with the far majority from within Canada and a large number from Victoria. Many people we meet have seen our petition and when we talk to them are already aware of our campaign.
Other organizations such as the Fur Bearer Defenders and Animal Justice continue to put pressure on Canada Goose and the government to end this inhumane industry; however, because we are a smaller organization we will continue to direct our efforts locally.
We want to give you this opportunity to consider how much those coats that cost the lives of so many are worth to Capital Iron. More people and some businesses have said they will join our boycott of Capital Iron by not shopping there until you drop the brand. While the coats are expensive, the markup on them must be lucrative if you believe losing business is a worthwhile investment for this brand.
While we continue to pressure you to stop carrying this brand for ethical reasons, we also want to offer you an alternative. There is a new brand named Mammoth Outerwear that is currently developing an cruelty-free alternative to Canada Goose jackets. They are currently in their Kickstarter phase, but will likely be established in February and will be looking for retailer support for sure.
You can be a leader in the community by dropping Canada Goose and supporting the Mammoth clothing line, or many other humane alternatives. It would be an opportunity to turn this issue on its head and come out looking good for doing the right thing and you could make a lot of money from these jackets that many people in the community will happily support buying with a clear conscience.
Please let us know your thoughts. We would much rather work with you than against you on this.
