Pointe shoes, jazz shoes, ALL dance shoes should have several skin tone color options! Our dancers spend hours dying and painting their shoes to match their skin tone, it’s time for a change! They should be able to purchase the correct color of shoe just like everyone else!

As a Black woman who used to dance in my childhood, I felt extremely self conscious of the fact that what was considered “nude” for the white dancers was somehow supposed to apply to the dancers of colour as well. Nude is not one universal shade & it shouldn’t take this long to acknowledge that.

I have experienced this problem however I was always too afraid to do anything with my soft shoes and pointe shoes. I didn’t know if it was acceptable to change my shoes to match my dark skin tone because I was surrounded by white dancers who were completely fine with having pink...it matched their skin tone fine! Please make this change, it will help so many girls like myself feel more comfortable and seen while dancing
