Why this petition matters

Started by Jillian Simons

The Exit Zero Waste campaign intends to reduce the amount of plastic waste in Cape May, starting with straws. Fortunately, we have local businesses such as Magic Brain Café, Ostara's Coffee House, Rusty Nail, and many more that are spearheading this initiative.

Being a long-time resident and having organized several clean-ups around town, I often find plastic straws scattered across the sand, sidewalks, benches, and sometimes drifting along the shore--to name a few.

Plastic straws are single-use, non-recyclable plastic. Considering Cape May's high tourist attraction, regulating litter and pursuing environmental initiatives should be expected from our community and local government.

As a local and nature enthusiast, I want to make sure our beaches stay clean and our wildlife remain safe. Together, we can make our Cape May more green.
