Cap Energy Costs for Business

Cap Energy Costs for Business
Why this petition matters
Businesses in the UK that are coming out of energy contracts are facing cripplingly high increases to their energy costs, which are likely to force some to take drastic cost cutting measures to enable them to meet these super inflated rates or worse still, close. This loss to the economy can not be stressed enough.
The cap on households is being partly supported by the uncapped rates businesses are now being asked to pay, whilst the energy companies make obscene profits which OFGEM do nothing to control. The average business is expected to dig even deeper at a time when we face the potential of recession, higher wages increases and increased corporation tax.
We have yet to see the full impact of the price increases so we need to see action now to avoid a winter catastrophe. E-on today (8th Aug) are asking for a tariff of £0.31 per day and the unit charge of £0.57 per kWh. This is for a fixed period, not just a variable rate. These are obscene levels of pricing which are not justifiable and show how the control of the energy sector is in the hands of too few very cash rich enterprises.
The British public and businesses are not fools but their hands are tied. There will be a backlash for the profiteering we are having to put up with.
The cap should be £0.35 per day and £0.25 per kWh. This rate is still close to double the rate most business have been or were paying. This is a relatively short term problem and its time for the government to support those growing businesses who put so much back into the economy.
