Many Riders rely on the AATA ExpressRide Commuter Bus for their daily work commute. We have had this service for three years and a group or Canton residents rely on it. We have grown from ten to sixty nine riders over the years. It is a growing service. Mass Transit is growing in the communitities lets not stop this one from continuing to grow. The City of Canton has been approached about contributing $15,000 to next year's AATA budget. This would go towards helping fund the Canton-Ann Arbor Express Route. The University of Michigan and some large downtown Ann Arbor employers are picking up the lion’s share of the route - with the cities (Chelsea and Canton) contributing $15,000 each. The Canton Board of Trustees has received this request from AATA just recently - so, the $15,000 is not included in the Canton budget at this point in time. The undersigned urge the Board of Trustees to appropriate the funds for this expenditure. Without this minimal support from the City of Canton it is quite likely the route will be cancelled. This commuter bus has steadily increased in ridership and now has become a necessity for a very large number of Canton families. This service has increased the quality of life for many, represents a selling point for the City of Canton and is an investment for the future. Council of Chelsea recently voted yes for the $15000 in their budget.
