End plans for the seasonal closing of local museums
From January 2014, Canterbury City Council plans to introduce seasonal closing times for the Canterbury Heritage, Whitstable and Herne Bay museums.
Herne Bay Museum and Whitstable Museum would open 4 days a week (Thursdays to Sundays) from 11am to 5pm for 32 weeks of the year from April to the end of September, allowing three weeks to cover school half term and Christmas holidays.
Canterbury Heritage Museum would open 5 days a week from 11am to 5pm for 32 weeks of the year.
Canterbury, Whitstable and Herne Bay thrive on history, heritage and, crucially, tourism.
Against this background our museums play a vital role. We strongly believe that Canterbury City Council should invest in these services, actively promoting them to tourists and residents throughout the year. This will ensure continuity of service and will safeguard our local history and heritage for future generations.
