Tuition fees are constantly on the rise making success at university even more crucial. However, if the tuition fees weren’t extortionate enough, most students have to pay a fee to celebrate their hard work through graduation. At Canterbury Christ Church University (CCCU) students have to pay £22 per guest ticket, an average of £45 total to hire a gown for a DAY and if that wasn’t all bad enough ... the price of graduation photos can range from £30-£295.

How any student can afford to pay this is beyond me, especially those receiving the minimum student loan and paying for food with a part time job trying to make ends meet. Student poverty exists and is very real. The sheer cost of graduation means that some students will not be able to attend their ceremony and receive recognition and reward for all they have contributed, not just to their own personal journey but also to their university and the wider community. A relative amount of universities in Scotland have already scrapped graduation fees recognising the financial burden it places on students.

This petition asks that Canterbury Christ Church University scrap graduation fees for all students graduating from 2019/2020 onwards.
