Dogs off-leash next to a school - what are they thinking?
This petition had 15 supporters
Officers at the City of Canning recently recommended turning a park next to a primary school into an off-leash dog area. The school itself submitted an objection due to very serious safety concerns and yet the recommendation still stands. I started this petition in disbelief and as a last resort.
Other states have regulations that prevent off-leash dog areas from being within 10m of childrens play areas. This is because of the health and safety implications. All it takes is one dog on a bad day and one kid (yours or mine) could end up in hospital with life threatening injuries. The council wants us to live with this threat so that others can "enjoy their dogs more". Prioritising the enjoyment of a few dogs over the safety of our children shows great contempt for our children and our families.
There are already off-leash dog parks in the City of Canning and many more parks fit for this purpose to choose from.
