Candies, Since You're Selling Sex to Young Girls, We're NOT Buying!

Girls are confronted with thousands of super-sexualized images daily that perpetuate dangerous ideals that girls should be valued for their "perfect" bodies, not their intellect, strength, uniqueness or creativity.

I just signed the following petition addressed to: Candie's.

Stop Using Sexism to Sell Clothing!

Girls are confronted with thousands of super-sexualized images daily that perpetuate dangerous ideals that girls should be valued for their "perfect" bodies, not their intellect, strength, uniqueness or creativity. Ads like this one with Vanessa Hudgens, a celebrity popular with girls as young as 7, are harmful to children and young women and men everywhere. We are outraged that Candie's Corporation consistently uses sexist images that suggest that a "Hard Day's Work" (actual quote!) (the actual quote accompanying this ad) for a Candie's girl is to be ironing (while chewing bubble gum? in her underwear?). In total contradiction to their demand that girls should always look sexy, Candie's Foundation promotes "abstinence only" as the best and only form of sex education in their "Pause Before You Play" teen pregnancy prevention campaign. Stop sending conflicting and harmful messages to girls, immediately. If you're selling sex, we're NOT buying!
