Many students feel huge anxieties and pressures associated with their futures, and what the COVID-19 pandemic means for them in long and short term. Adding the stress of standardized testing for students only adds to their growing stresses and does not adequately address those challenges. Instead of final exams, schools should focus on supporting their students and transitioning them into the next semester, which may mean spending more time solidifying their understanding of the subjects they are in, rather than adding to already piling stress levels. With the new rise in COVID variants, a cumulative test is unfair to students now that mental health is drastically fluctuating. Students who regularly are high achiever may not be able to read their level of success based on their level of stress.
