Canadians, think it’s time to end the spanking lawHelp us to repeal section 43 of the Criminal Code.

This law is outdated. It is not acceptable to use physical force on a child. 

Repeal section 43 of the Criminal Code. This law makes it acceptable to use physical force against children. Anyone standing in for a parent can put hands on a kid if they so decide. The kids have no right to their own "security of person" which is a fundamental freedom that even the worst of adult criminals have.

Repealing section 43  is one of the first calls to action of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. We are one of the few countries that still opts to put hands on children to force docile behaviour. This has been pointed out to us, to our national embarrassment, by the UN, and many child protection organizations. 
 
If we repeal this law, not only will we be stating as a nation, at long last, that Canadians believe violence against children is wrong. It might pave the way for kids and adults whose behaviour stems from things outside their control like illness, injury to get the special treatment they need,
