Canadians calling for a unified federal response to climate change!

We, the undersigned residents and citizens of Canada

Draw the attention of the House to the following:

THAT, on October 8, 2018 the IPCC (International Panel on Climate Change) released its most recent, and damning, report detailing clearly the effects that global warming is having and will continue to have on our planet and here in Canada. While the situation is dire, it also clearly states responses that are scientifically proven to mitigate, and if applied vigorously could even stop, global warming. The solutions are all at hand.

We are feeling the effects now throughout Canada and the entire world. However, our children will be the ones to endure the ugliest moments of this disaster if we do not respond immediately. The IPCC report states that we have 12 years to respond.

On October 15, 2018 an emergency debate was held in House of Commons regarding the IPCC report. The critical nature of our current situation prompted the house speaker to grant permission for MP's to debate well into the night. Unfortunately, much of the debate amounted to little more than political finger pointing and posturing. These exchanges are a colossal waste of time and energy. The focus must be on action

Partisanship is meaningless in the face of rising  global temperatures, droughts and wildfires, rising sea levels, and loss of diversity and food security.

The residents and citizens of Canada call upon Parliament to:

Create a federal emergency task force that will establish a unified response to climate change. This group will consist of representatives from all federal parties, scientists, and other experts whose knowledge can best support mitigation and the implementation of the plan. Furthermore, leaders from First Nations, Métis and Inuit territories and lands must be central participants as the original and ongoing custodians of this land. This group will be dedicated to the creation of an immediate plan of action committed to reaching the targets already agreed upon in The Paris Agreement.

Paramount, all federal parties will agree to support and advance this plan as jointly created.

Furthermore, Parliament will work together in good faith. The outcome will beplan that is both rigorous and brave. It will demonstrate an intense and honest desire to solve global climate change and to show leadership on the world stage.  Parliament is asked to present a collaborative climate strategy that put politics aside and our love for this Earth, for children and animals to take its place in the centre.

This is a grassroots petition requiring the leadership of each one of us to enact the critical shift that is needed now. Please share widely among your networks.
