Here in Canada, we have a Veteran's week - it was an afterthought. Tacked on the week before the hardest day for anyone that's ever known a Canadian who's given the ultimate sacrifice. This would be like having a 'Christmas week' just before Easter. It is unacceptable and needs to change.

Given we live next door to the largest media presence on the planet, we sometimes mix up what the true meaning of our holidays stand for. 

As a veteran myself, I find the community struggles to find separation between honouring our war dead and wanting recognition for their own personal sacrifices and the strain they have put on their families due to the demanding duty they have chosen. Us veterans need a day to call our own. Separate from the day we all acknowledge the ones who gave all.
