Due to the high demand for truck drivers in Canada and the lack of interest from younger people to join the industry, it has put the industry and the general public in a very dangerous position. Large companies and governments have adopted the policy of hiring unskilled and under trained drivers, most of which do not understand the english language and who have never driven a vehicle of this size or traveled along our highways. These drivers are being set free to drive on their own after only a few weeks of training, usually with a short day cab tractor pulling a empty training mostly around the city. 

I strongly believe that it's time that the Canadian government recognized truck driving as a trade and officially classified it as a red seal trade. This would not only improve highway safety through improved training, but will also improve the overall lifestyle and pay for current drivers by keeping unskilled under trained drivers off the roadways.

By making truck driving a red seal trade it will provide new drivers the time to gain experience in all weather and road conditions. It will provide them the skills necessary to confidently and safely travel along our highways.
