International Student Eligibility for the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB)

Hey Career is a small, independent career coaching and counselling platform based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. We advise international students, permanent residents and temporary workers on different issues related to employment, language and culture.

We have heard from hundreds of international students over the past few weeks who are concerned about not understanding or not being eligible for certain Covid-19 programs. Many international students are too shy or nervous to contact their member of Parliament (M.P), so they have asked Hey Career to submit this petition.

Yesterday, Hey Career learned that post-secondary international students are not covered in the Canada Emergency Student Benefit (CESB) program, which means that international students with limited resources in Nova Scotia are not eligible for the $1,250/month that will be provided to all other eligible post-secondary students. We believe this only stigmatizes an already vulnerable community.

We are asking the Canadian Government to reconsider this policy and show compassion by approving all post-secondary international students for this much-needed financial resource.

To all members of government, we are asking you to please come together and provide the support post-secondary international students need right now.

Thank you.
