Sarah Kako started this petition to Canadian Federal Government and

We, as students who started this petition, are not Indigenous nor do we claim to know the exact struggles they experience. As settlers, we are privileged to be in a position to be able to help others who do not have the same privileges. This being said, we are letting Indigenous women inform us on the issues that they feel need to be fixed. We have been informed through The Call to Action to All Canadians.

Many Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people in Canada face issues of intimate partner violence, which leads to mental health issues and other personal problems which makes it very difficult for them to care for their children and share close bonds with their families.

As a result, it is important that these individuals have access and enough resources in order to help and support them. This petition is to advocate for more women’s shelters and mental health facilities built on or near reserves.
