While racial injustices are very prevalent on the news in the USA, they aren't covered as much in Canada. I want to bring awareness to the fact that Canada has racial injustices as well, we are not perfect. Racial profiling has been a problem with Canadian law enforcement for decades since carding started. In a recent study by the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty 167  interviews were conducted among black citizens, two-thirds of those interviewed said that they had been assaulted or threatened by police for doing nothing. The Kingston Police did a survey and found out that black residents were 4 times more likely to be pulled over by police. Canadian police filled out 1.7 million cards in 2010 and it was found that 41% of the issues reported on those cards involved black citizens. But it is not just black citizens that are being profiled, all POC citizens are at risk to be profiled. Idigenous women are 14 times more likely to be randomly questioned than white women. It's time for this to stop, and now is possibly the best time to do it. Charging officers that racially profile someone will lower the amount of profiling that is done, and it will create a safer feel to the world. They must be held accountable and not just let off the hook.
