When my son turned 18, his file was closed at his Psychiatric care specialist, with no automatic transfer to an adult specialist. This was very traumatic for us, after 18 months we are still waiting in Kitchener-Waterloo. I am sad, depressed, angry, disappointed, confused. Please sign this petition so this does not happen to anybody again.

As Canadians I believe we can do better. Family doctors are not specialized in complex issues such as Tourette’s ADHD etc. This came across as abandonment to our son and he went to a deep depression.

Please make it easier to get Psychiatric care in our region, this is a human rights issue and we are denied basic care for our son. ADHD was initially thought as a child neurological condition but it continues into adulthood. Often these young people do not go to College, lose employment, go into drugs and become a burden to our society. Instead of being reactive, let’s be preventive for once and get the care these kids deserve. According to research by Dr. Russel Barkley, Internationally know ADHD specialist, these kids are 30% younger than their peers in emotional maturity. How do you refuse medical care to an 18 year old who is actually only 13 in his brain? I am enraged as a mother. Please help me advance this cause. Thank you very much.
