Why this petition matters

Started by Tim Moore

Right now it’s a total of $630 per Permanent Resident of Canada aged 18+ to become a Canadian Citizen. There’s already way too many unfair things Permanent Residents have to deal with, including:

1) Paying all forms of taxes, house and car maintenance/insurance, weekly groceries, you name it - just like Canadian Citizens do, but not having the same rights

2) The $490 fee for becoming a Permanent Resident as well as the $50 renewal fee every 5 years. If a Permanent Resident stays outside of Canada for too long (something might come up meaning they have to go elsewhere for some time) they lose both their Permanent Residency and their ability to become a Canadian Citizen.

3) Not being allowed to vote

4) Not being allowed to have certain jobs

5) Not being allowed a Canadian Passport

6) Their children will not automatically be Canadian Citizens

7) If a Permanent Resident is an innocent victim of another country doing something to them (kidnapping them for example), Canada does not take such strong action to helping them as they do to Canadian Citizens.

All that being said, it’s no opinion that being a Canadian Citizen is much more beneficial than being a Permanent Resident. It’s just greedy that the Canadian government wants such a price for it; it should be no more than $400 per person at absolute max!

It’s understandable that Permanent Residents who can afford Canadian Citizenship have to go through the difficultly of filing all income tax, stating every day they were outside Canada since the day they became Permanent Residents, proving they’re criminal free; as Canada needs to know if someone fits all that criteria in order to become a Canadian Citizen - but having to afford $630 shouldn’t be one of them.
