To me, this is a matter of fundamental justice. I am a supporter because this government must be held to account for their permissive attitude and actions (or inaction for that matter) that have in essence, condoned such systemic and individual racism to occur in federal workplaces currently and over decades past. The impact of the trauma and damages of this is incalculable. Specifically, to those who work for the government and indirectly to all those who receive federal services across the country.
Antiblack racism is a terrible legacy in Canada. A Haitian woman was just murdered in Montreal after complaining to the Montreal Police about harassment and threats, the police did nothing, and she was killed in the parking lot outside her apartment. I am a target of antisemitic harassment, and the human rights organizations in this country do nothing. My cousin is gay, and he is a target of homophobic discrimination and hatecrime, and the Toronto Police dismissed his complaint after money was stolen out of his bank account by hackers and the police blew off the complaint. Racism in Canada is an epidemic.
Stand strong. Fight.
