Maya Louiza started this petition to Campbell University

Campbell University has disregarded the safety of its students and faculty by keeping its doors open through the storms caused by Hurricane Dorian. Campbell has a six absence policy, where more than six absences will result in a lower grade.  But many teachers at Campbell have a zero absence policy, if any student is absent even once their grades can be greatly affected. Campbell University is located in Buies Creek, North Carolina and is situated in a spot that will be greatly affected by flooding.

Hurricane Dorian has ripped through North Carolina and the Bahamas, and has caused millions of dollars worth of devastation.  At the time of writing this petition Hurricane Dorian is considered a Category 2 Hurricane.  Most schools in the Buies Creek area have canceled classes for the week, fearing for the lives and safety of their students.  Tornado warnings, flash flood warnings, and curfews have been issued for areas surrounding Buies Creek. Numerous emails from concerned students and the families of students have been sent to Campbell pleading for the campus to give students the necessary time to prepare, evacuate, and be with their families. Despite all of this, Campbell University has decided to keep its doors open and students are still expected to attend classes as scheduled. Campbell may be able to keep classes running but it should not pressure students to chose between going to class and risking life and limb; and they should not be penalized if they choose to err on the side of caution.

Please sign this petition and urge Campbell to excuse absences for the week of September 1-7.
