Campbell Newman: Stop putting lives in danger by cutting vital jobs in the rural fire service

Queensland is facing its most dangerous fire season in years -- but the Newman government has just announced that it’s cutting jobs in the rural fire service.
The government is targeting a handful of paid staff who look after the state’s 35,000 rural fire volunteers. The cuts will damage their ability to fight fires, protect the community – and they will put lives in danger.
These few staff help coordinate firefighting, evacuations, and community education programs. They’re literally life-savers. But now, the could be the newest victims of Newman’s cost-cutting.
Queensland has just had its longest dry spell in a decade. We already spend less per head on fire services per head than any of the other states, and experts are warning that this fire season could be the worst we’ve seen in years.
Newman that he can’t get away with this. Please sign the petition, and ask everyone you know to spread the word. This is one step too far, and we won’t stand by while the government cuts jobs that save lives.
