Don't Evict Elderly Residents of Eventide Nursing Home

The Queensland Premier has sunk to a new low - his indiscriminate cost cutting will see high care aged care residents of Eventide Nursinghome on Brisbane's north side lose their home.

No one thought before the election to make Campbell Newman promise to not evict elderly people from their nursing homes, who would have thought a government could stoop so low, the staff of Eventide probably felt safe after hearing his promises about protecting workers on the front line, and the residents of Eventide couldn't have known that the new premier was going to kick them out of their homes.

Almost 46% of nursing home residents in the seat of Sandgate voted for
Mr Newman, and this is how he repays them - and what's worse, he outsourced the bad news to the Hospital board instead of being up front with them during the election campaign.

Letter to
Premier of Queensland Campbell Newman
Don't Evict Elderly Residents of Eventide Nursing Home

Please reconsider the decision to kick residents out of the Eventide Nursing Home at Brighton.

There is no compassionate way to kick elderly people out of their home, particularly when the decision to move in is often made in emotionally complicated and distressing times.

The 80 residents and 69 Staff of the Eventide Home deserve better from the State Government.

Almost 46% of nursing home residents in the seat of Sandgate cast a primary vote for your party, Mr Newman, and this is how you repays them - and what's worse, you outsourced the bad news to the Hospital board instead of being up front with them during the election campaign.

Please stop this callous move.
