This petition is to gauge student interest in having a DJ provide the music at this year’s Barristers Ball as opposed to a band. The proposed band is called Liquid Pleasure and will cost $10,000. SBA voted to appropriate the $10,000 for Liquid Pleasure at the council meeting on 10/5 by a vote of 8-3-3 (for-against-abstained). However, the students who voted against the appropriation or abstained did so because a DJ option was not presented at all. No quote was provided for a DJ. Further, when the council asked whether it could wait to vote until a DJ option was explored, it was told that it must vote immediately or the band would become unavailable.

A DJ is a better choice for the music at Barristers because it will likely be thousands of dollars cheaper and will be able to play a wider variety of music that will suit students of all musical preferences. I believe more students prefer a DJ to a band for these reasons.
