Because of global pandemic COVID-19, Camosun College has shut down the library, computer labs, and all face-to-face instruction, but they still expect students to carry out the semester with none of the supports that are usually offered.

Other universities and colleges in Canada have moved to make the Winter semester pass/fail option to those who want to take it, while still allowing to keep your assigned letter Grade if you so choose! Camosun College must do the same for the sake of its own students and staff. Right now students and professors are facing a truly unprecedented crisis.

This is not unprecedented. Many universities, colleges, and polytechnics have implemented similar systems in order to preserve academic integrity while ensuring students will be able to complete their courses without undue difficulty.

The Northern Alberta Institute of Technology moved to this system: https://emergency.nait.ca/COVID-19-Update-and-general-information/COVID-19-update-for-credit-students-March-23-Cha

The Social Sciences faculty at University of Ottawa: https://charlatan.ca/2020/03/uottawa-faculty-announces-pass-fail-option/

Camosun College can make this change, just like many leading polytechnics, colleges and universities have. If this change is not implemented, many students may fail due to the extreme pressures they are facing, or worse, they may sacrifice their mental and physical health to get an A during a pandemic!

Let's offer people the choice to not screw up their GPA.
