Why this petition matters

Started by Alana Green

We are lobbying for Camden Council to review the building and development regulations for the flood effected areas of Camden Central.

We petition for a review of the tight restrictions of heritage zoned areas to allow for residents to make necessary changes to future proof their properties. We believe residents have the right to protect themselves from the increased threat of flood and the consequential material and emotional loss.

Currently, due to the heritage zoning, residents are restricted in height and facade changes to ensure the dwelling remains within a heritage style. This results in limited options to raise the height of the structure, which would ultimately avoid the devastating impact of flood waters entering the house.

By signing this petition, we are asking for the Council to provide a platform for discussion to explore options and allow for reasonable changes that would protect the at-risk residents and businesses, whilst preserving the village nature of our beautiful town.

This request for review is not for developers to make mass dwellings within central Camden, but to allow for our community’s residents and growing families to provide a home that is safe guarded against future flood events.
