Camden's proposed trash valet creates an undue burden on its residents in the following ways:

- The proposed trash valet creates an unnecessary financial burden to residents.  While it is true that residents will not be charged unless they choose to renew their lease, Camden is proposing that it is appropriate to expect us to pay not only city trash, but also for the valet service.  This is redundant and unacceptable.  Many of us enjoy living at Camden, have made it our home, and would like to renew our lease, however, the proposed Trash Valet will cause residents to reconsider if continuing to call Camden home is in their best interest.

- The proposed trash valet creates a burden of inconvenience in several ways.  Camden Martinique is a four story apartment community, with two trash chutes on each floor, as well as a larger dumpster in the parking garage, making taking out trash easy and convenient for all residents, regardless of weather, time of day, etc.  Camden is planning to lock the trash chutes, making it impossible for residents to utilize this great amenity.  Even though we will still be charged for city trash, our access to it becomes limited.

- The proposed trash valet is of great concern regarding sanitary living conditions.  While Camden has been a great community to live in, there are already concerns regarding cleanliness and infestation, and the trash valet will make these problems worse.  Rats have recently been seen in the "A" building, while raccoons and other rodents have been seen in neighboring buildings.  We were specifically asked by Camden in our lease to not leave trash out in our breezeways, but this is exactly what the trash valet will require, thus inviting more rodents to infest our buildings and decrease overall satisfaction.

- The proposed trash valet creates an issue of bad timing and a lack of care for resident's other responsibilities.  The trash valet will require residents to put out their trash bin during a particular time range, and to bring it back in within a particular time range.  Failure to bring the bin back in time results in monetary fines.  We are a diverse group of residents with many different careers, family situations, and varying obligations at all hours.  The trash valet does not take this into consideration.

Overall, the proposed trash valet is an improper use of resources.  Camden is proposing this change as something that will be for the benefit of the residents, even though the strong majority of residents have expressed their strong desire for this service to not be implemented.  At Camden Martinique, residents collectively desire Camden to improve our living experience by making this a safer community, using security cameras (per staff, the current ones in the garages do not work), and increasing the security presence.  Contrary to what Camden has stated, having trash valet employees on site at various hours does not increase our security.  The above measures would.

Alternatives to the proposed trash valet include leaving the trash situation as it is and using resources to add security and amenities residents desire.  In an effort to go green, another alternative would be to add a recycling bin in the parking garages, next to the current trash bins.

Adding trash valet is an unacceptable option to the people signing this petition, and we ask that Camden reconsider this upsetting decision.
