Reena O'Neill started this petition to Camden Council

The community attending and surrounding Beckford (soon to be West Hampstead) Primary would like to see a Healthy School Street trialled at their school.

Since the start of the pandemic, many of us have been spending more time closer to home, making our neighbourhoods more important than ever.

We want our streets to be safe spaces for our children to get to and from school safely and to be breathing cleaner air.

Camden's Healthy School Streets create a safer and healthier environment by temporarily closing roads to traffic outside schools during drop-off and pick-up times. This enables more children to walk, cycle or scoot to school, with less air pollution, road danger, congestion and more space for people to physically distance themselves.

We've already raised concerns about the safety of our children at school pick up and drop off with issues of heavy traffic and congested road networks in Dornfell Street, Broomsleigh, Glastonbury and Ravenshaw Streets, insufficient pavement widths in some locations, heavy parking activity, bad driving behaviour and ‘rat-running’ traffic on Mill Lane and other nearby streets.

Healthy School Streets (HSS) has helped to discourage car trips, particularly amongst parents/carers, by providing a safe and inviting space for more walking, cycling and scooting.

We would like to lend our support to a consultation for our school.
