Camden Skatepark & Recreation Facility

The Camden local government area is fast becoming one of the largest demographic regions in NSW and the urban growth and development is not slowing down.
The young people of Camden and surrounding suburbs, most whom ride skateboards, BMX bikes and scooters, only have one very small outdoor riding facility to use. Unfortunately, this facility known as 'Kirkham Skatepark', is often overcrowded and unsafe to ride due to the sheer volume of users.
Additionally, the park itself is well out-dated and has a non-professional surface which makes riding somewhat dangerous and subjects riders to unfavourable injuries.
Companies such as Convic and United Skateparks are professional skatepark builders and have built dozens of world class facilities all over the country and world.
Ideally, Camden Council will engage the services of one of these organisations and build the young people of Camden a world class, safe and aesthetically pleasing outdoor skatepark and recreation facility that would include a street course, full size skate bowl, mini-ramps, ledges, drop-offs and 'snake run' etc.. complimented by Australian native inspired landscaping.
The perfect example of what is possible would include Mona Vale Skatepark, Berkeley Skatepark, Bateau Bay Skatepark, Belconnen Skatepark and Port Macquarie Skatepark. All these parks have been carefully designed by professional design and build teams to become a value-add to the community rather than an eye-sore.
Additionally, these parks are well lit by floodlights into the evening which creates safety and discourages anti-social behaviour. Due to the professional finish applied to these parks, youths are less likely to damage the facility because they become 'proud' of it.
The Camden community cannot solely rely on a 'proposed' skatepark development in Oran Park in 2018. Even if the Oran Park facility is built, it will not be sufficient for the entire Camden youth population. An ideal location for this would be at Kirkham Park or Narellan (new sports hub).
