Emily Smith started this petition to CAMC memorial hospital

No one should be allowed to die alone and scared. My mother In law was admitted to CAMC memorial hospital September 5th 2020 and diagnosed with covid 19. She was in the ICU until her death October 3rd 2020. She was alone and afraid. No one was allowed to Visit the month in the ICU. Her husband had also been diagnosed with Covid around the same time she was diagnosed. He wasn’t allowed to visit the hospital where his wife was admitted. ONE MONTH she was alone and scared until her demise. NO ONE SHOULD EVER DIE ALONE. Our family wants to make a change so no one ever has to go through this again. The nurses started with reusing PPE’s and masks. How is that allowed but a family member completely protected is not? Something needs to change. I don’t think everyone should be allowed in. Just one designated person to know they are not alone and they are loved. Someone to encourage them and hold their hand through the pain. I strongly believe it would have calmed my Mother in Law down and she would have been less anxious and scared if someone she loved was there to hold her hand and talk to her. If she had someone there she may not have lost this battle. According to psychologytoday.com,  Loneliness doesn't only affect our mental wellbeing, though. It can cause an increase in cortisol, which can “impair cognitive performance, compromise the immune system, and increase your risk for vascular problems, inflammation and heart disease,” according to the Cleveland Clinic. Researchers have found that loneliness is just as lethal as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. Lonely people are 50 percent more likely to die prematurely than those with healthy social relationships. ... It also increases inflammation in the body, which can contribute to heart disease and other chronic health conditions.

How is this allowed knowing the health risk? How many people would of had a better outcome if the rules were to change?
