Cambridgeshire START: Don't exclude my 8 year old son from society!
UPDATE: 10/7/13 - START (Statutory Assessment and Resources Team) HAVE NOW AGREED TO ALLOW CHRISTIAN TO RETURN TO HIS MAINSTREAM SCHOOL -TEMPORARILY UNTIL THE TRIBUNAL IS COMPLETED TO PREVENT THEM FORCING HIM INTO THE SPECIAL NEEDS SCHOOL. ALTHOUGH THIS IS A PROGRESS THIS PETITION MUST CONTINUE TO PREVENT THEM FORCING HIM INTO A SCHOOL THAT IS WRONG FOR HIM AND WILL CAUSE ONGOING EMOTIONAL, EDUCATIONAL AND DEVELOPMENTAL DAMAGE.
My son Christian has a number of special needs summarised as a mixed developmental disorder. He can often feel anxious and is very sensitive to what is going on around him. For the past few years he has settled into a mainstream school, made friends and is happier than he ever has been.
Our Local Authority has now told me that they will cancel his placement at his school. Instead they want him to move to a special needs school that I feel cannot cater to his specific needs and will cause him emotional, educational and developmental harm. They said if we don't agree to move him, then they will not fund a placement anywhere else and we will have to homeschool him.
I visited the school they want my son to go to and it will not suit him. Medical professionals have supported that My son doesn't need specialist teaching. All he wants to do is have friends and be treated like every other child. The next step for me is to take the local authority to tribunal, they have stated that during this six months process they will not allow him to go to his current main stream school, regardless of the educational psychologist and even his current teachers all saying he should stay where he is in the intrim period as he is coping well and is more settled than he has ever been.
I've tried to find other solutions that would be right for my son but the local authority turned down my suggestions. I want my son to be part of society - not treated separately! He is an individual person and is being segregated by his 'label' and it is wrong.
I believe that every child should be given the opportunity to live a normal life, go to a school that is right for them and make friends. My son's disability shouldn't prevent him from being a part of society.
Please sign my petition and help make sure cost-cutting doesn't force my son out of school.
Thank you all so much for you're support.

Let my son stay at his current school or amend his statement to Wildslodge if the specialist route is going to be pushed. Prevent any further damage to him! He has made HUGE PROGRESS this year and you have completely disregarded this along with medical/educational/parental advice. I will not be cornered into you forcing me to choose a school that will cause damage to my child. You will personally be responsible for the effects of that should I be legally forced into that situation. This petition is a demonstration of the public support in you changing your decision.
