Cambridge University: Hire 5 more counsellors in the UCS

This petition had 275 supporters

This battle is one that is very close to my heart. During my second year at Cambridge, I was diagnosed with a mental health condition, and sought help from the University Counselling Service.

What I didn’t realise was that from sending off my initial pre-appointment questionnaire on the 19th of February, I wouldn’t get an appointment until the 30th of March. I was one of the lucky ones. One of my friends waited eight weeks to get an appointment, the length of a whole term in Cambridge.

This is appalling. Cambridge University is one of the richest universities in the world with nearly £4bn in assets. It prides itself on producing the very best of students. How can it claim to do this when it fails a large portion of its students so catastrophically?

I am asking the University to invest its money in its students, and call for 5 new counsellors in the UCS to ensure that no student has to wait.  I hope you will join me. Please sign our petition and help us campaign to cut waiting times for vulnerable students so that they can get the help they need when they need it.

Thank you,
