To Call off the Calvert Hall Midterm exams
In this time of Covid, Snow cancellations and the lack of studying in school, we the students of Calvert Hall feel that we should not be expected to take part in the exam process. With only three days of studying, many students have not had the chance to receive a study guide or any understanding of what topics the exams will cover. With the snow cancellations many have found it difficult to come to their teachers in person to ask for work or help with their studying. The idea that by separating students with exams to help stop the spread and work through it, is dangerous and close minded. Many teachers and students already have Covid at this current time, what would be the result if they back in the classroom together? Will there be enough teachers to proctor the exams? Will there be enough kids to take them? What about the kids who get Covid and miss the review and exam days? These questions can all be solved by calling the exams off.
Although Calvert Hall considers themselves different from other schools, we believe that the school should follow in the footsteps of schools like Loyola, Spalding and St. Marys and cancel their exams (or at least make them option).
We understand that as students we are expected to dislike tests and try to have them cancelled. But we feel that under the circumstances, students should not be rushed and pushed towards taking an exam that will most likely hinder their grade and diminish the hard work they have done throughout the year.
