The local farms and farm stands of Calvert County provide us with fresh foods and vegetables many of us would otherwise not have access to. The benefits to the health of Calvert Countys citizens as a result of having access to fresh fruits and vegetables, humanely raised meats, non-homogenized milks, and small batch cheeses is beyond measure. Additionally, many of our local farms provide us and our children the opportunity for local agrotourism, giving us the opportunity to expand our knowledge of ways to sustain the rural lifestyle so many come to Calvert County for. Our farms and farm stands not only provide those who can afford these goods and services with a piece of their harvest, several farms support End Hunger and dedicate a portion of their farmland to growing fresh produce for the needy each year. If we prohibit their freedom to conduct open business, it is only reasonable to assume that this land would then need to be utilized for profit to recover the profit lost from events and expansion. The public events held by these farms and businesses are attended by thousands of us each year, and are a large draw into the county from surrounding areas. This stimulation to our local economy cannot be ignored, nor should it be limitied. This is a community that enjoys the freedoms of local access to goods and services. It is a great binder of our community, and without this County would loose much of the appeal it has held in its support of those who work hardest for us all, our farmers.
