CALTRANS and OCTA: Remove Toll Roads (again) from consideration in the I-405 Freeway Improvement Project
July 24th Public Hearing Overview
Jul 25, 2013 — The current construction of the 405/605 intersection and Seal Beach bridge replacement is a different project than the one in question. The new project being discussed is the added lanes on the 405 between the 73 and 605. The biggest problem is the differing approaches between Orange and Los Angeles Counties. While LA County is spending its money on mass transit, Orange County is putting its money just into bigger roads. When the OC expanded roads reach the LA County line there is a bottle neck. LA County is not adding new lanes to the 605 or 405. The first Environmental Report was processed through OC residents and Option 1 was preferred. OCTA and Caltrans didn't take into account the problems this project would cause for Long Beach. Outrage from Long Beach prompted OCTA to do a Supplemental Environmental Report to mitigate the problems OC will bring to LB. Although OC residents are funding this Measure M project, there is no money planned to fix Long Beach impacts.
