Why this petition matters

We, the undersigned Alumni, faculty, staff, and other stakeholders of the University of Southern California (USC) Suzanne-Dworak Peck School of Social Work, hereby demand the current administration of USC in general,  and the School of Social Work in particular, hold a high-visibility, open, public hearing to formally censure the former Dean of the school, Marilyn Flynn, who was charged with federal money-laundering and bribery crimes and has recently taken a "plea deal" where she blamed her accomplice, Mark Ridley-Thomas, and is apparently in agreement to serve a term of 10 years of house arrest in her (according to news outlets) "well-appointed" home in the affluent Los Feliz area of Los Angeles, the epitome of White Rich Privilege, instead of jail, the more appropriate punishment for such vile crimes that anyone else would have been subjected to.  The actions of Flynn have tarnished the reputation of USC in general and the School of Social Work in particular, causing it to fall in national ranking evaluations of such schools, and cheapening the degrees that alumni paid top-dollar for in the history of the school.  Her well-known caustic, abrasive, and abusive management style of faculty, staff, and students have caused specific damages to all concerned and demoralized the entire school atmosphere, all the while she was committing crimes that she has already plead guilty to.  We demand that our School publicly censure this vile criminal behavior and her entire legacy of mismanagement that put money in her pocket with abuses of the development of the "online" program and the decimation of the sound curriculum.  We demand that our School publicly announce specific steps to ensure that such atrocities in leadership never happen again.  We demand that our School publicly present a plan to restore our School to its former high national rankings, by enhancing its clinical training, research quality, and positive community impact for faculty, staff, alumni, clients served by our stakeholders, and other community stakeholders.  We demand that our School end its silence and the implied implicit agreement with Flynn's policies by publicly and resoundingly censuring this foul episode and vile abuse of power by a criminal figure who has betrayed our trust and caused immeasurable damages that will take years to repair.
