The World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 80% of the African population relies on traditional medicine for therapy and in 2004 the South African cabinet adopted the The Indigenous Knowledge Systems (IKS) Policy, “thus laying in place the first important milestone in our efforts to recognize, affirm, develop, promote and protect Indigenous Knowledge Systems in South Africa”. It is against this backdrop that we are calling on government to RECOGNIZE, AFFIRM AND PROMOTE complementary or alternative medicine by integrating it in its fight against Covid-19. Since the advent of Covid 19 over a year ago, people have been isolating at home and using these methods and have recovered. We now need government to play it's role in sharing these methods and remedies in its fight against this deadly virus and save lives.
