Calling Trump to uphold the decision of the Army Corps of Engineers on rerouting DAPL

While the Army Corps of Engineers decision to halt the building of the Dakota Access Pipeline and search for an alternate route is a victory for environmentalists and the Standing Rock Sioux people, there is still the threat of the Trump administration and their ability to undermine the progress made on this issue by the Obama administration. The environmental hazards and civil rights violations presented by the Dakota Access Pipeline are unacceptable and should not be tolerated by the American People.

It has been proven that Trump has a vested interest in the success of the DAPL, and it is entirely unacceptable for the President of the United States to make decisions that concern the well being of many Americans based on his own financial interests. Despite claims from Trumps administration that he has no financial stake in the decisions made towards the Dakota Access Pipeline, according to Trump's federal disclosure forms filed in May he owns between $15,000 and $50,000 dollars of Energy Transfer Partners and owns between $100,000 Dollars and $500,000 Dollars of Phillips 66 another Texas based energy company that has a quarter share in the Pipeline. Trump's resistance to put his business dealings into a legitimate blind trust seriously call into question his interests in the sucess of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

This petition needs the support of ALL Americans to come together and call for Trump to stand with the decision made by the Army Corps of Engineers to re-route the Pipeline. According to ABC news, "Trump transition team talking points obtained by ABC News on Friday state that 'his support for this project has nothing to do with his personal investments and everything to do with promoting policies that benefit all Americans'." However, if this were the truth he would not forget that Native Americans are the only true Americans among all of us who call this wonderful country home today, and if he is allowed to steam roll the rights of a minority and extend the pipeline it creates the potential for massive environmental damage as well as setting a precedent for future dealings with minority groups in America.

It is horrifying to us both as students in America, one of us being from mixed ethnicities and one gay, to watch a president elect be given the ability to wield such incredible power granted to him through the electoral process against the "American" people and what it will mean for minority groups in the coming years. WE stand with Standing Rock, and WE stand with those against the DAPL. We as Americans can not let our hunger for fossil fuels ruin our beautiful country and crush the rights of our people. We must stand in solidarity and voice our beliefs that Donald Trump and his administration should uphold the decision of the Army Corps of Engineers to seek a safer route for the pipeline, as well as show that steam rolling the rights of Minority's in America will not be tolerated.

While this is not an permanent environmental fix as we advance our renewable energy technology we must try and limit the damage caused by the dependence on fossil fuels in the meantime.
