Call now for health reform   :)

As Congress works to enact legislation that leaves our broken system of employment-based health insurance unchanged, some lawmakers are planning to propose eliminating private insurance and creating a single-payer system - the only real solution to our health care crisis.

This week, Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-N.Y.) will introduce an amendment in the Energy and Commerce Committee that abolishes private insurance and creates a national single-payer system that would cover everyone. This amendment would substitute Rep John Conyers' (D-Mich.) single-payer bill, HR 676, for the current Tri-Committee Health Reform Bill. Please ask your representative on the House Energy and Commerce Committee to support Rep. Weiner's amendment. If your representative is not on this committee, call Chairman Rep. Henry Waxman (D-Calif.).

In addition, Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) will introduce an amendment in the House Education and Labor Committee that would make it easier for individual states to enact single-payer programs if Congress fails to do this on a national level this year. Please ask your representative on the House Education and Labor Committee to support Rep. Kucinich's amendment. If your representative is not on this Committee, call Chairman Rep. George Miller (D-Calif.).

Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.) has introduced a similar amendment would make it easier for individual states to create single-payer systems. Please ask your senator on the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee to support Sen. Sanders' amendment. If your senator is not on the HELP committee, call Acting Chairman Sen. Chris Dodd (D-Conn.).

Keep single-payer alive during this critical time for health reform by demanding that your legislator vote for these amendments.

Thank you for all you do,
