Mohammad M. Etedali started this petition to John Fallon (CEO, Pearson Plc.)

Preamble: Article “d” on the eligibility criteria of the 2019 Pearson English Global Teacher Award states that “any, nationals of, or persons located in Iran”-- and a few other countries-- are excluded from entry.

Discussion: Pursuant to the US Presidential decision to cease the United States’ participation in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) and the re-imposition of the US nuclear-related sanctions against Iran, a National Security Presidential Memorandum (NSPM) was issued and the Secretary of State and the Secretary of the Treasury were directed to prepare immediately for the re-imposition of all of the U.S. sanctions lifted or waived in connection with the JCPOA, to be accomplished as expeditiously as possible and in no case later than 180 days from the date of the NSPM.

Petition: We, the Iranian language teachers, are petitioning for the withdrawal of the decision to exclude Iranian teachers from participating in the 2019 Pearson English Global Teacher Award. The case of the Iranian Ghazal Parsa, one of the language teachers who won the Pearson 2018 Teacher Award should be the best evidence that teachers in Iran are not politicians; they are at the forefront of a vibrant society of language enthusiasts and practitioners who happen to be the users of Pearson ELT materials. Hear their plight, reconsider your decision.
