L H started this petition to Slough borough council (Slough borough coun)

James Swindlehurst is the current Labour leader for Slough and is also the leader of Slough borough council. In the 5 years he has been leader, he has squandered money on many projects that the slough community do not want! He has allowed direct government funded projects to go ahead like Langley memorial park and the bus lanes. He isn’t listening to the residents of Slough.

Here are just a few of the projects he has been involved in;

A bus lane through the town centre and this has had huge impact on traffic around an already busy Bath Road. This was done over lockdown and was not piloted. When the restrictions were lifted we all found that The Bath Road had been cut in half to allow for a bus lane. In some parts where the bus lane was implemented, the bus passed only every 40 minutes. Locals largely feel this was unnecessary. There are so many left turnings off the bus lane that cars are blocking the roads to turn off and potentially causing accidents.

Langley memorial park plans were all rushed through over lockdown. A stay at home order was in place at the time, locals didn’t have a chance to contest the destruction of the local park which belongs to the people of Langley. Many were not aware of the plans until it was too late. It has had many trees cut down to make way for two lanes from Marish court to the traffic lights to allow traffic flow into meadfield road. The locals are extremely angry at this. There is another petition to stop the work and a Facebook group for information on this.

The council have moved their premises into 25 Windsor Road. This building was, according to one of the local Cllrs, “fit for purpose”. It did not need the £41m refurb that James Swindlehurst splashed out on the building before moving in. Many are in shock that this project went ahead during a pandemic. The true figure has not actually been disclosed by the council. £28k was spent on plants!

Putting the council tax up by 4.99%! Many of us are struggling financially and the increase at this time is unwelcome by many. If the council had better reserves, would this maximum rise have been necessary? It feels like the new HQ has been built and they are taking the money back off the community with the other hand.

Following the letters informing slough residents that there was to be a rise, the phone lines had been so busy many were on hold more than 5 hours! SBC later released a Facebook post informing us the phone lines would be closed for a time.

The Slough Labour Party are also under scrutiny over bullying claims.

Madhuri Bedi chose to leave the Labour Party as their values no longer fitted with her own. Cllr Bedi resigned on a zoom call and James Swindlehurst said “the people of slough do not put their faith in quitters, splitters and traitors”, he later said in an interview that he “had nothing to apologise for as the comment wasn’t aimed at Cllr Bedi”. Cllr Bedi is now an independent councillor of the foxborough ward in Langley.

During the very same zoom meeting Cllr Bedi abstained during a vote and another person on that zoom call used a profanity straight after her vote. It was called out by another Cllr on the call. Since Cllr Bedi resigned from labour, I have witnessed many digs from labour cllrs including Akram, Hulme and Escott on Facebook pages.

The behaviour of some of the the current Labour Party must be addressed and James Swindlehurst resign!
